Position Title: Installation & Maintenance TechII

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Installation & Maintenance Technician II is responsible for leadership in design, installation & maintenance of the SL100 voice, Local Area Networks & Cable TV system. Provides advanced technical support for Communication Services & other depts. Assure cohesive efforts by internal & external staff in daily operation & complex projects.
70% Field Technician. Provide non-routine problem analysis in mixed component voice & data communication systems w/intent to establish standards; consult w/clients on equip specs & standards; advise to optimum config & usage; provide complex install & maint assistance to Networking & Communication Services personnel to assure goals & objectives are met. Participate in maintaining communication systems operational integrity via preventive maint for all departments cable facilities & support off-hours critical repair; assist in planning & implementing Divisional Emergency Service Plan. 25% Administrative. Obtain, coordinate, distribute info to provide reports on Networking & department's managed equip. Update/produce databases containing statistical info; utilize data to project trends, resource estimates & cost analysis; develop documentation for field standards used by Networking & dept. staff; justify resource expenditures for service order requests. 5% Supervisory. Guide support staff & vendor personnel in efforts to achieve the required level of communications stability, security & system integrity; oversee project assignments & coordinate with client, analyst and field engineering until completion; backup support in supervisor's absense attending meetings & assigning field technicians and supporting Field Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS: Three years experience in the installation & maintenance of voice and data systems with two years of participation in communication project planning and execution. Thorough working knowledge of analog and digital transmission techniques, and interconnect methods. Proven ability to operate and diagnose technical test equipment with resolutions or recommendations. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to design and terminate cable schematics for communication links using various media; copper, coax, fiber optic, etc. Understanding of asynchronous and synchronous communications. Familiar with Cable TV applications, IBM mainframe and databases. Proven experience with Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks such as Phonet, Appletalk, 10-BaseT, and Ethernet applications. Ability to follow directions promptly and accurately. Ability to react positively under emergency situations and maintain a professional attitude under pressure. Ability to meet established work deadlines and coordinate efforts of others, to meet project goals. Ability to supervise and lead an assigned project until completion with full scale documentation. Must maintain a valid California driver's license and good driving record at all times. Must be able to lift and move heavy objects.
